TIANJIN (FIBA Asia Championship) - Twice back-to-back silver medallists Lebanon scored powered their way to a 105-56 triumph over last edition’s semifinalists Kazakhstan in their final Group F eight-final round game on Wednesday.
The win – which gave Lebanon a 3-2 win-loss situation – put Lebanon in the No 3 spot in Group F and also confirmed that Qatar will qualify as the fourth team from this Group.
Kazakhstan, who needed a win in this game for a chance to force a three-way tie, will now play the 9-12 classification.
Lebanon gave Kazakhstan no allowance right from the word go.
The West Asian powerhouse – one of the three Asian teams to play the 2006 FIBA World Championship – scored the first 10 points of the game and cruised along.
Fadi El Khatib, Mat Freije and Jackson Vroman all made merry improving their PPG average.
El Khatib returned a game-high 24 points.
Freije contributed 19 and Vroman had 17.
Alexander Tyutyunik was the highest scorer for Kazakhstan with 12 points.
